Extracurricular Activities
The Bloomington Center offers the following voluntary extracurricular activities performed by students that fall outside the realm of the regular CIP curriculum.
Student Senate
The Student Senate plans many events throughout the year such as game nights, movie nights, dances, Halloween parties, super bowl parties and more. In addition to community service, they also fundraise so that they can plan trips, provide food and drink, and decorate student events. Another important role of the Senate is to provide feedback to staff regarding program improvement. The staff member acts as student senate advisor, providing guidance to senators as they develop and refine their leadership skills.
Community Service Opportunities
While a minimal ammount of community service is a career program requirement, students can participate beyond the basic requirements. Community service builds confidence, fosters leadership and introduces students to themselves.
Yearbook Class
Each year students have the opportunity to work together to create a yearbook. Staff help students designate and share roles such as photographer, copywritter, editor and designer. All team members work together to wrap up the year in a colorful and fun way.
Educational and Cultural Spring Break Trip
Students enrolled at CIP have the option of attending a fun and educational travel program one week a year during the college spring break in March. Students prepare for this trip through a series of class meetings in which they study the language, arts, culture and trip itinerary.
Each year an exciting new world destination is chosen. Part of the spring break experience is participating in community service. Besides being able to help those in need, this experience instills leadership and develops character. These trips are an excellent opportunity for students to travel and broaden their horizons in a safe, supervised atmosphere.
